Weathering effects part-1
Awesome and easy weathering effects.
Believe it or not, the weathering effects on this vehicle were accomplished with my wife’s old make-up kits. I will not take credit for the idea; my wife is who came up with it, I just made it work. From the initial experiments from old make-up kits I have actually went out and purchased some bulk make-up kits to use on my models. The cheap kits come with over 20 colors and cost less than any model dusting agents I have found on the market. The best part about using the make-up is it actually sticks to the model. It is way easier to work with than model dusting powders as well. The make-up is easily blended with the applicator that is usually included with the kit. You can however purchase make–up brushes (which I also use for dry brushing) for around $1 USD, and they come in a multitude of sizes. Now I know no self respecting model enthusiasts (of the male variety) wants to go out and purchase make-up kits, but I have found that it is a cheaper alternative to dusting powders and accomplishes the same task.
As an extra tip, while you are out looking to purchase some make-up kits pick up some cheap hair spray as well. This can be used before and after the make-up application to achieve flaking effects and to help protect your weathering effects from further handling until you get the time to clear coat your project.
